ANNOUNCEMENTS

What’s all the buzz about?

It is generally asked that someone fill one position for 2 years, however, it is possible to commit for 1 year.

PTA President (8-12 hours a month)

Oversees and coordinates the work of an executive board to run a PTA effectively. Presides at PTA board and association meetings. Serves as the official contact, communicator and representative of a PTA. Designated as an authorized signer for PTA checks, contracts and authorizations for payment. Serves as ex-officio member of all committees except the nominating committee.

Works with other PTA leaders to connect families, school and community to support student success. Manages the PTA Google Suite

PTA Treasurer (4-5 hours a month)

Treasurer is responsible for setting the annual budget, reporting on the budget monthly, depositing money to the bank account, managing the taxes and other financial documentation. The time commitment varies but generally is around 4-5 hours a month, including the executive board meetings and the general meetings.

PTA Financial Secretary (4-5 hours a month)

The financial secretary works in conjunction with the treasurer and is responsible for picking up all reimbursement requests from the school PTA mailbox, writing all checks, ensuring the checks are associated with a budgeted line item and for now has been the key Spirit Wear coordinator (which we are recruiting to have someone else own that role). The time commitment varies but generally is around 4-5 hours a month, including the executive board meetings and the general meetings.

PTA Secretary (4-5 hours per month)

The PTA secretary is responsible for taking minutes, sharing them, and keeping track of some records for the PTA (mostly consisting of bringing signup sheets to the PTA meetings and saving them afterwards). The job takes about 4-5 hours per month. There are two meetings (or fewer) per month during the school year: the general PTA meeting and the executive board planning meeting (but there are some months without a general meeting). If the secretary is occasionally sick or cannot make it, they generally provide a substitute or arrange for another board member fill in. We have templates for the minutes and sign-up sheet, making this an easy job to learn and a fun way to contribute and participate without needing specialized knowledge or a large amount of time to commit.

The next meeting is March 11 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM at Lovonya DeJean Middle School at 3400 MacDonald Ave, Richmond, CA 94805.  Please come and make your voice heard! Our local schools are demanding that the Board takes specific action so that this kind of financial crisis never happens again! The United Teachers of Richmond will have free shirts, food, and signs for people to make (please join them at 5:30). Bring colleagues, families, students, and community to join us in solidarity!
