READY, SET, READ!

HOW DOES THE READ-A-THON WORK?
Starting the morning of Thursday, September 29, and continuing through the night of Friday, October 14, students are encouraged to read every day and keep track of the minutes. Families can also invite sponsors to donate money in support of
the readers’ efforts. At the end of those 16 days, they tally up all the minutes they read, and turn in their reading logs and pledges.

HOW TO LOG YOUR READING MINUTES:
Digital reading logs are available at pledgestar.com/miravista (registration required), or you may use the paper ones provided in the September 28 Wednesday folder (and available here).

Recommended daily reading times:

   → K–2: 30 minutes

   → 3–5: 45 minutes

   → 6–8: 60 minutes

• An adult (parent, guardian, or teacher) needs to sign off on your student’s minutes each day.

• Independent reading in class and reading to your child can be counted toward the Readathon.

HOW TO SUPPORT THE READERS:
Please consider donating money, if you are able. And invite family and friends to donate, too! Track pledges by using the sponsorship form provided in the Wednesday folders, or by registering on our digital donation platform, Pledgestar.

Donation options:

→ Flat amount (e.g. $20 regardless of time read)

   → Per minute read (e.g. $0.05/minute)

   → Per book read (e.g. $2/book)

Contributions can be made by credit/debit card using the Mira Vista Pledgestar site, or by cash or check (payable to “Mira Vista PTA”) turned in to your teacher or the school office.

HOW TO USE PLEDGESTAR:
Go to pledgestar.com/miravista and register (yes, even families who have used Pledgestar before need to register for each new event). Need more help? You can find Pledgestar instructions here.

WHY PARTICIPATE?

Readathon is one of the Mira Vista PTA’s biggest annual fundraisers. The money we raise goes toward our school’s enrichment programs, teacher grants, field trips, supplies, and more. And the students really get into it! They can win prizes for themselves and for their classes! Most importantly, Readathon is about celebrating all our reader Bees, and helping them build a lifelong love of reading.
