Ms. Hund is originally from Louisiana. She came to California in 1998 for a graduate degree in Computer Animation. In the past, she taught 5th grade, 7th grade History, K-5 computers and Yearbook. She loves to spend time with her son. She also loves to eat good food, dance and learn. No really--her idea of a good time is learning about quantum physics. And the history of racism. And nutrition. And other cultures, people, and places.

On day one, please make sure you child comes prepared with a regular child’s size backpack (large enough to carry their folder back and forth), one of your child’s favorite healthy snacks, and a change of clothes. Daily supplies (pencils, paper, crayons, etc) will be supplied by the school, although the teachers will give out a list of items that we could use to help stock our classrooms on the first day.
I was raised in the Bay Area and I’ve been teaching in WCCUSD for 20 years. My family is originally from the US Virgin Islands and the East Coast, and I love to travel! sdennis@wccusd.net
There is an afterschool program for 2024-25, but space is limited due to staffing. Please contact the After School Program Coordinator for more information: Samia Little slittle@bacr.org
Ms. “Chen”derson is a life-long learner. She started her schooling in Taiwan and then immigrated to the U.S. at the age of 8. Her first lesson in the U.S. was learning to bob for apples which she thought was gross and silly. Since then, she has earned a B.A. in Political Economies of Industrial Societies from UC Berkeley. Prior to becoming a teacher with WCCUSD, she worked as a marketing consultant launching companies in the digital space. This will be her 17th year of teaching the 6th grade. Ms. “Chen”derson lives in Oakland with her fun-loving family of critters: three demanding cats, two goofy dogs, and a clever husband who can fix just about anything. She loves to spend time hiking, climbing, reading and gardening.
Please pack a small snack for your child in his or her backpack. Snacks should be healthy (no candy or soda allowed). Snack time is only 15 minutes long, so please pack a snack that can be consumed in that time. Fruit, yogurt, cereal bars, baby carrots, and string cheese are great choices.
Yes, please see this page on the district website.

I love talking to parents and get to understand different cultures as we share conversations during parties and field trips. I love TEACHING! msantos@wccusd.net
Children should not arrive at school before 8:00; there is no supervision before then. The bell rings at 8:15, at which time students line up in front of their classroom.

Kindergarten ends at 1:30 pm daily. Students must be picked up from the kindergarten yard by a parent, guardian, or caregiver. Any student not picked up on time will be escorted to the office.
In the large lot below the kindergarten yard, or on Hazel or Mira Vista Avenues. There is also a small lot at the end of Claremont Avenue. There is no parking in the circle near the office—it is for staff only. Pick-up or drop-off at the circle is not allowed. Walking to school and carpooling are encouraged!
In 2005, I received my Multiple-subject teaching credential from California State University Long Beach. I have been teaching for twelve years. Last year was my first year at Mira Vista Elementary School and I am very excited to be returning! Last year, I moved from Orange County to the Bay Area. In Orange County, I was a Middle School teacher and a Kindergarten teacher, so I have experience with all grade levels attending Mira Vista Elementary. Before having my own classroom, I was a substitute teacher. When I was a young girl I worked and volunteered for many schools and always knew I wanted to be a teacher. As a teacher, and a parent, I understand how important it is to support Mira Vista’s Parent Teacher Association. I enjoy sharing good memories with students and staff at extra curricular activities such as the Fall Festival, Healthy Kids Celebration, and school dances. One of my favorite ways to contribute is to decorate for special occasions. A few of my personal favorite mottos are “Try, try again” and “When you think you’re done, is when you just begun.” A few hobbies include hiking, art, gardening, walking my two dogs, and spending time with my friends and family. Ms. Blain lives in Vallejo with her daughter and two dogs. Her daughter is also a proud Mira Vista Bumblebee and her son attends college in Orange County. cora.blain@wccusd.net
Please make sure your child is on time and in school every day. If your child is late, you must sign him or her in at the office and get a tardy slip. If your child must be absent, please call the office at (510) 231-1416 to report the abscence.

You will need to sign your child out of school. Please do not go to the classroom. Once you have signed your child out at the office, the staff will notify the teacher, and your child will be sent to the office.
I was born in Yemen and came to the United States when I was five years old (1983).
I’m half Yemenis and half Vietnamese and my faith is Islam. I’m the oldest of seven siblings.
I started working for WCCUSD since my daughter was in kindergarten, & now she’s 21 years old.
My role in the district was a paraprofessional in an SH, NSH, & the Learning Center class. Serving the students became such a passion that I knew I had a bigger obligation and duty to serve the community, So that’s when I became an After-School Program Coordinator for Bay Area Community Resources for the past 5 years. I am truly Blessed to be at Mira Vista where it’s so diverse and by far has the best support & community.
“It isn't where you came from. It's where you're going that counts” * Ella Fitzgerald *
There are currently three kindergarten classes. Individual daily activity schedules vary by teacher. Class sizes are dependent on district mandates. At Mira Vista, we have very strong parent volunteer involvement, and we aim to have parent volunteers daily in classrooms.
The kindergarten area has a separate, fenced play area and structure designated only for kindergarten students.
Please click here for the district registration page for current registration dates. Please either register online or bring your completed materials to the school during office hours (9–3 pm, closed 12–1 for lunch).
I am originally from Bryan, Texas, home of the Texas A&M Aggies. After graduating from Sam Houston State University with a BFA degree, I moved to Los Angeles where I met my husband. His career moved our family to the Bay Area where we have lived happily for the past 30+ years. I earned my teaching credential from Hayward State (Cal State University, East Bay) and began teaching after my three daughters moved from elementary school to middle school. I then earned my administrative credential and Masters Degree in Elementary Administration from St. Mary’s College. I have been at Mira Vista for all but one of my 20+ year teaching career. I have taught first grade and fourth grade. My passions are quilting and reading. I also love hanging out with my two grandsons and one granddaughter. dcruger-hansen@wccusd.net
Children must be 5 years of age on or before September 1 of the year they start kindergarten to be enrolled.
You will need to register your students once, by following the instructions provided here (English) and here (Español). You can also find a video, explaining how to register for testing, here. If you are unable to register online, contact Mira Vista’s front office if you need assistance with the LSA registration process.
Once you have completed the registration, your students will be tested each Tuesday. --- From the WCCUSD website: LSA [Laboratory Services of America] provides a one-time registration process online. Visit the Covid Testing webpage on the District’s website to locate the registration instructions for your school. Click on the link in the instructions to go to the website or use the QR code on your phone. This will also allow testing registration to be set up through the year and no other documentation will be needed for continued testing. When you arrive for testing, you will be asked to provide your name and date of birth only. View the dashboard on the District’s website to see the confirmed positive cases in WCCUSD.
I was born and raised in New York City (Mets NOT Yankees). I received my masters in Early Adolescent Development from Bank Street College of Education and taught for 6 years in NYC. I came out West in 1998 and taught for 2 years in Mill Valley. I worked for 12 years at a nonprofit educational publishing house (Center for the Collaborative Classroom), developing literacy materials with a constructivist pedagogy and working with teachers around best practices in literacy. After leaving CCC, I spent three years as a literacy coach in Oakland USD. A few years ago, I decided I needed to be back in the classroom, and I am thrilled to have landed at MV and to Bee a part of this amazing community. The lights of my life are my two boys, Ansel, 18, who is playing baseball in Texas, and Dashiell,15, who goes to ECHS. I love all things music—listening and playing (drums and some guitar). I am an avid baseball fan (to be clear, Mets NOT Yankees), watching, coaching and still playing some. On weekends, you’ll find me hiking with my dog, Oliver, playing ball with Dash, cooking, watching a game or working on my home. grady.carson@wccusd.net

Prior to working for the District, I was practicing in Manila (Philippines) where I had my own private clinic which was a partnership with a developmental pediatrician and a child psychologist. This is my 26th year as an SLP and I love what I do! Aside from enjoying what I do here at MV, I am also passionate about serving others. I am married to an accountant and we love to go on long drives and finding good food. Our Sundays are dedicated to serving at our home church. My mindset centers on the following – I get to do it! Be intentional, live with purpose and always be grateful no matter what. I love my Mira Vista community! aevangelista@wccusd.net
Beginning Monday, September 13, the district has partnered with Laboratory Services of America (LSA) to administer weekly rapid COVID-19 tests to students and staff.
For the person who has tested positive:
If a student produces a positive rapid test, it will be sent to the lab to undergo PCR testing to confirm. If the result remains positive, the parent/guardian, principal and district official will be notified immediately and COVID-19 protocols will begin, including isolation and the immediate pick up of your student. This will help the district to maintain an accurate and updated dashboard. After quarantining for 10 days, students can return to school with no symptoms.
Shortened quarantine can end after day 7, if a diagnostic specimen is collected on Day 5 or later from the date of last exposure and tests negative.
For close contacts of the person who has tested postive:
Anytime there is a positive case identified on site, close contacts will quarantine for 10 days. If the close contacts cannot be identified, all students in the class will quarantine for 10 days.
A close contact is identified as someone who has been within zero to six feet of the infected person for 15 minutes or more in a 24 hour period (according to CDHP guidance).
From WCCUSD COVID-19 Student and Family Safety Handbook:
My child tested positive for COVID-19 but had no symptoms.
If your child continues to have no symptoms, they can return to school after 10 days have passed since they had a positive viral test for COVID-19. Retesting is not required and not advised. If your child develops symptoms after testing positive, contact your healthcare provider.
A child who tested positive for COVID and had symptoms can return to school 10 days after their symptoms first appeared and their symptoms have been improving and they have been fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications.
For everyone else -
The District will assign a project manager to oversee the Covid Positive tracker and communications. Current communications from your school’s principal regarding positive cases will be sent from the project manager’s office.

I'm the school psychologist assigned to Mira Vista. I enjoy my place at Mira Vista because of the amazing community feeling, and the great staff, families, and kids that I have the opportunity to work with and support. I grew up in the Central Valley and came to the Bay for college at San Francisco State University, which I attended for undergrad and graduate school. Outside of Mira Vista, I teach school psychologist graduate students at SF State, supervise interns in the district, and lead a cultural competence committee in the psych department. When I am not at work, I like to spend my free time with friends and family, traveling, crocheting, attending trivia nights, and checking out many of the great restaurants in the Bay Area. adrianna.jeanpierre@wccusd.net
I am the occupational therapist assigned to Mira Vista. I went back to school after my youngest child entered middle school and got both my bachelor's and master's degrees in occupational therapy at San Jose State. After graduating, I worked for two years for another district before coming to WCCUSD. I love my job. I love to see the growth the students make each year. It is very rewarding. I also love working with the other OTs in the district and at Mira Vista (starting my seventh year here). We have a wonderful community of teachers, staff, admin, and families. I don't have a lot of spare time — I'm usually working or involved in some family, community or church activity. I'm also currently taking piano lessons and hope to take guitar someday. Additionally, I'm studying Spanish. Once in a while, I take time to hike, cook, read, and/or to play puzzles, word games, or Sudoku. If I had more time, I'd do scrapbooking, sewing, and ceramics. When we have a chance, my husband and I visit our nine children and 32 grandchildren who are spread all across the United States. Family is what it is all about. sgillispie@wccusd.net
From the WCCUSD COVID-19 Health and Safety Guide:
Families will be notified of school or cohort closures and any restrictions in place to prevent COVID-19 exposure (e.g., limited hours of operation) as soon as possible.
All exposures to district personnel are contact-traced to ensure persons exposed are notified via phone or email.

If you do not receive direct contact from a member of the Covid team within 24 hours regarding a confirmed case, your student has not been directly exposed or affected. Unless there is significant close contact with a person who has tested positive, we do not need to quarantine the entire class.
Again, if your student has not received direct contact from a member of the Covid team stating they were directly exposed or affected, please send your student to school as usual. Our school sites will follow up on all student absences, per district policy and state law.
From the WCCUSD FAQ Fall Reopening Page
If the school is experiencing an outbreak, the COVID Response Team should immediately notify public health officials and collaborate to facilitate increased testing and contact tracing, as necessary. The local health department may facilitate testing for students, teachers, and staff who are in schools with an active outbreak. The health department may also conduct contact tracing in these situations. Schools can assist by providing information, to the extent allowable by privacy laws and other applicable laws, to identify close contacts (e.g., class rosters, seating charts, and student emergency contact information) that could be tested and either isolated or quarantined.
Situations that may indicate the need for school closure:
Within a 14-day period, an outbreak has occurred in 25% or more stable groups in the school.
Within a 14-day period, at least three outbreaks have occurred in the school AND more than 5% of the school population is infected.
The LHO may also determine school closure is warranted for other reasons, including results from public health investigation or other local epidemiological data.
Length of closure: 14 days, or according to a decision made in consultation with the LHO.
Cohorts: Cohorts may be shut down or removed from in-person instruction temporarily after the presence of a positive case for quarantine.
Ms. Hund is originally from Louisiana. She came to California in 1998 for a graduate degree in Computer Animation. In the past, she taught 5th grade, 7th grade History, K-5 computers and Yearbook. She loves to spend time with her son. She also loves to eat good food, dance and learn. No, really — her idea of a good time is learning about quantum physics. And the history of racism. And nutrition. And other cultures, people, and places. amanda.hund@wccusd.net

I am a WCCUSD Alum. I went to Shannon Elementary, Pinole Middle & High School. I graduated from UC Berkeley with a Linguistics degree. Mira Vista is where my teaching journey started as a substitute in Kindergarten. I went on to get my teaching credential through Sonoma State and was placed at another school site in the district, where I taught 6th, 3rd, & 4th grade. Each grade level has something unique to love! I am excited to be back at Mira Vista, the school I found my passion for teaching. I currently live in El Sobrante, with my husband, Demetrio and our dog, Clover. I enjoy traveling during the summer and even on the weekends. I also enjoy day hikes and going to the movies. ahoy@wccusd.net

I found my passion for working with children at the age of 15 when I first started teaching kids to knit. That led me to volunteering at after school programs. I then worked as a classroom Mental Health counselor. Eventually, I was placed as a teacher. My passion continues to grow as I observe our students playing with peers, asking questions about life, and showing pride in their abilities. When I am not working, you can often find me knitting, gardening, or cooking up a delicious meal. frances.santiago@wccusd.net
