What time can I drop my child off at school?
Children in grades 1-8 should not arrive at school before 8:15 am; there is no supervision before then. All students should be at school by 8:30 am. There are several entrances to the school: on Hazel Avenue, the gates at the end of Sierra, on Arlington at Highland by the flashing red lights, and at the end of Claremont Avenue. The bell rings at 8:25 a.m., at which time students in grades 1-5 line up in the lower yard near the lower Hazel Avenue parking lot entrance and meet their teachers. If it is raining heavily, then students meet their teachers in the multipurpose room at the start of their day. Middle school students meet in the upper yard near the middle school classrooms.
Where can we park?
The upper part of Hazel Avenue. (southbound), is a drop-off and pick-up zone only. You may park in the lot below the school on Hazel, but it gets quite congested between 8:15 and 8:40. RECOMMENDED: Street parking is available on Hazel (northbound), Mira Vista Drive, Tulare, and Sierra, and there is also a parking lot at the end of Claremont. Please do not park in the circle, as those spaces are for teachers and staff members.
What happens when my child is late for school or absent?
If your child is late you must sign in at the office and get a tardy slip, no child will be admitted to class without one. If your child has been absent, please send a note or doctor’s excuse to the teacher upon return stating the reason for the absence. You may also call the school at 231-1416.
What do I need to do if my child has to leave school early?
You will need to sign your child out of school. Please do not go to the classroom. Once you have signed your child out at the school office, the staff will notify the teacher and your child will be sent to the office.
How can I help out at school?
Volunteers are always welcomed. There are opportunities to help in classrooms, in the library, and through the PTA on projects and committees. View the list of PTA programs we currently need help with.
Are there any volunteer requirements?
Parent volunteers (Parents/legal guardians) and community members (non-parents) who wish to volunteer at any WCCUSD schools are required to have a volunteer badge. There is no cost to get your badge. Download badge instructions (pdf) in English or Spanish.
What is the PTA and what does it do?
The Parent-Teacher Association of Mira Vista is made up of people who want to help make a better place for our children. The members raise funds for our school to help pay for study trips, school assemblies, school improvement and many other events. Visit our PTA page for more information and to download a membership form.
Everyone is welcome to attend PTA meetings, which are usually held the second Wednesday of the month from 7 pm–8 pm.
